New York, NY – October 30, 2015 – EnergyHub, the leading provider of connected device management for utilities, today announced the launch of a Bring Your Own Thermostat℠ (BYOT) demand response program with Minnesota-based generation and transmission cooperative Great River Energy.
The partnership between EnergyHub and Great River Energy will allow any of the organization’s member distribution cooperatives to deploy a BYOT demand response program using EnergyHub’s OpenBYOT platform. Great River Energy’s member cooperatives serve approximately 655,000 customers.
To participate in a BYOT demand response program, cooperative members will purchase and install eligible connected thermostats through retail, trade or home security channels. The cooperatives will benefit from EnergyHub’s relationships with leading thermostat manufacturers, gaining access to a wide variety of thermostat options through a single contract with EnergyHub.
Great River Energy and its member cooperatives will utilize EnergyHub’s Mercury software platform to manage the BYOT demand response program, including enrolling and dispatching thermostats. Mercury is an advanced software platform for managing and controlling connected devices over any two-way network. The Mercury OpenBYOT platform allows utilities to take advantage of EnergyHub’s existing relationships to partner with any thermostat manufacturer or connected home service vendor through a single contract with EnergyHub.
EnergyHub will be the exclusive provider of BYOT demand response services to Great River Energy.
“We’re excited to work with Great River Energy to make it easier than ever for their member cooperatives to deploy demand response,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, president and co-founder of EnergyHub. “Great River Energy is our first partner to take advantage of OpenBYOT, which streamlines the BYOT launch process and makes it easy to rapidly scale a demand response program while offering maximum choice to customers.”
“EnergyHub’s OpenBYOT platform is a great way for us to enable our distribution cooperatives to easily launch a BYOT program,” said Eddie Webster, demand response lead at Great River Energy. “Additionally, the platform allows us to maximize the value of the BYOT programs that our member cooperatives offer by creating a centrally-managed demand response resource that can be readily offered into the wholesale power market. ”
