EnergyHub to aggregate internet-connected thermostats from multiple manufacturers and service providers for Southern California Edison’s Save Power Days program

Brooklyn, NY – July 10, 2013 – EnergyHub and Southern California Edison (SCE) announced today that EnergyHub is enrolling thermostats from a number of thermostat manufacturers and service providers, including Alarm.com, Radio Thermostat Company of America, Vivint, and several brands of Ingersoll Rand: NexiaTM Home Intelligence, Trane, and American Standard, as part of SCE’s residential demand response study on programmable communicating thermostats this summer.

SCE customers with qualifying devices such as a thermostat from one of these approved manufacturers or service providers that enroll through EnergyHub can receive a $1.25 bill credit for every kilowatt-hour of energy they save between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. when SCE declares Save Power Days.

Recognizing the increasing trend for customers to purchase and install smart thermostats outside of utility programs, EnergyHub has been the industry leader in “bring your own thermostat” (BYOT) demand response programs that allow utilities to take advantage of the load shed capacity these deployed smart thermostats represent. Other utilities with programs using EnergyHub’s BYOT capabilities include Austin Energy, CenterPoint Energy, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), and San Diego Gas & Electric.

“We are excited to work with EnergyHub as part of this study to examine the potential for residential customers to save money and reduce peak load through third party programs,” said Seth Kiner, vice president of customer programs and services at SCE. “Third party aggregators can facilitate the ability of utility programs to leverage multiple enabling technologies for the benefit of utility customers.”

“This is the utility residential demand response program model of the future,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, President of EnergyHub. “EnergyHub is currently the only vendor to aggregate so many different manufacturers and service providers for a single utility program.”
