Recently, Navigant Research published its 2020 DERMS Leaderboard report, profiling the leading DERMS vendors. The report assesses the relative strengths and weaknesses of various DERMS providers.

These vendors, ranging from venture-funded startups to multi-billion dollar conglomerates, are focused on providing utilities a platform to leverage distributed energy resources (DERs) for the benefit of the distribution grid and to capitalize DER value in energy markets. DERMS vendors provide utilities varying capabilities to serve a diverse set of use cases. While some vendors primarily provide utilities ADMS platforms with DERMS modules added-on, others provide pure-play DERMS platforms.

EnergyHub is pleased to have been identified by Navigant as one of the top five DERMS platforms in the world, and was specifically identified as the leading provider of DER programs for U.S utilities. Compared to the 2019 report, EnergyHub saw the largest jump in points among all vendors profiled. The lead author of the report, Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, noted that EnergyHub’s Mercury DERMS platform is grid topology-aware, allowing utilities to model, sub-aggregate, and optimize DERs across the distribution grid.

“In 2019, EnergyHub expanded its engagement with new and existing utility clients and formed strategic partnerships that were built on the rapid evolution of their platform and vision for the future,” said Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, senior research analyst with Navigant Research. “EnergyHub has continued to differentiate itself in the DERMS market by providing utilities a robust, repeatable, and customer-centric approach to getting access to DER, which are most often owned by and are subject to customer preferences.”

He also highlighted the capability of the platform to model the flexibility of each DER at any moment in time, allowing the platform to optimally manage a fleet of distributed resources to achieve a particular grid objective. Additionally, he outlined the ability of Mercury DERMS to operate independent of, or in concert with, an ADMS.

The report also highlights EnergyHub’s DERMS deployments at Arizona Public Service and National Grid and its partnership with Oracle. More information on the DERMS vendor landscape can be found in the full report available here.
