January 14, 2020
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Jan.14, 2020 – EnergyHub, the leading provider of distributed energy resource (DER) solutions for utilities, announced Max Whitney has joined the company as VP of Engineering. Whitney brings over 20 years of experience managing software development teams, information technology services, and infrastructure resiliency across global organizations. She will manage software development, including initiatives to expand functionality, enhance data analytics, and ensure reliability across EnergyHub’s product portfolio.
Whitney joins EnergyHub to help satisfy rapidly growing demand from utilities for the company’s Mercury DERMS platform, a cloud software solution that allows utilities to manage connected devices for grid reliability. Her addition to the team follows a record year for EnergyHub’s business – including the launch of new utility programs to manage batteries, electric vehicle charging, thermostats, and water heaters. Currently, over 45 utilities use EnergyHub’s technology.
“Max will bring a unique combination of mission-critical infrastructure experience, deep technical expertise, and thoughtful leadership to EnergyHub,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, President at EnergyHub. “On the heels of years of sustained growth leading to the company’s most successful year yet, EnergyHub is thrilled to add a trusted and dynamic technology executive to our team to help meet growing demand from utilities for a reliable and dynamic DERMS solution.”
“As a bridge between utilities and Internet of Things connected devices, EnergyHub plays an essential role in developing the future of the energy grid. I’m excited to join an organization transforming the relationship between the utilities we work with and the more than 45 million households they serve, with the potential to multiply that footprint in the years to come,” said Whitney. “The software development team at EnergyHub brings together experts in cloud software, IoT devices, and electric grid engineering. Together, we can help utilities impact decarbonization, customer experience, and grid health.”
Whitney has experience leading engineering teams for both fast-growing startups and global institutions. Most recently, she served as VP of Engineering at health tech company Noom, where she led the development, launch, and maintenance of software products used worldwide. Previously, she managed technology systems at New York University, where she was responsible for mission critical software services across 14 global locations.
Whitney has deep expertise in information security and infrastructure resiliency. She has managed the uptime and recovery of technical systems through multiple natural disasters, including Superstorm Sandy. She consults with organizations on information security and lectures on the topic at the Harvard Kennedy School. She has also worked on the cutting edge of IoT hardware for over a decade as a managing member of NYC Resistor.
Whitney is guiding EnergyHub’s software development to add new features to the Mercury DERMS platform and maintain the platform’s resiliency at scale for utilities. Initiatives under her leadership include continuous improvement to the product’s data analytics capabilities, growth of the DevOps function to bolster technology infrastructure, and additional investments in information security.
