LAKEWOOD, CO and BROOKLYN, NY – September 10, 2015 – Hometown Connections, the utility services subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA), and EnergyHub, the leading connected device solution for electric utilities, announced a partnership to help public power organizations deploy innovative demand response and energy efficiency programs to homeowners. This new partnership will address the needs of the over 2,000 large and small public power utilities across the United States.

Through Hometown Connections, APPA members gain access to discount pricing on systems and services from the industry’s leading vendors, as well as consulting support in the areas of organization assessment, strategic planning, market research, and workforce solutions.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of electric utilities, EnergyHub provides both Bring Your Own Thermostat℠ (BYOT) and utility-installed demand response services. Utilities use EnergyHub’s Mercury software platform to deploy their demand response programs. EnergyHub’s BYOT service allows customers to purchase a wide variety of compatible thermostats and enroll their thermostats in the utility’s demand response program. EnergyHub’s utility-installed demand response service allows utilities to deploy a utility-branded thermostat and provide customers with utility-branded web and mobile apps that improve customer satisfaction and increase program enrollment. EnergyHub deploys its unique services in partnership with individual utilities or with public power joint action agencies/state associations on a group discount basis.

“Hometown Connections has long been interested in helping APPA members launch effective demand response programs that factor in the budget and staff time of public power systems,” said Tim Blodgett, President and CEO. “By focusing its application on a network of WiFi thermostats accessible by web portal, smart phone and tablet, EnergyHub offers demand response solutions that are easy for utilities to deploy and operate, and easy for customers to use to reduce their energy costs. We are very pleased to help APPA members learn more about the innovative demand response services from EnergyHub.”

“EnergyHub is excited to partner with Hometown Connections to bring our demand response capabilities to APPA members,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, President. “APPA members can use EnergyHub’s demand response services to seamlessly launch and grow DR programs that both meet the utilities’ load control needs and provide a fantastic user experience to their customers.”
