San Francisco and New York – Sept. 21, 2011 – Radio Thermostat Company of America (RTCoA) and EnergyHub™ Inc. today announced that RTCoA will transition to the advanced EnergyHub Mercury™ smart thermostat service as the native software platform for its line of wireless thermostats. The cloud-based Mercury platform unlocks the power of communicating thermostats by using advanced analytics and engaging user interfaces to optimize performance and increase energy efficiency. Paired with RTCoA wireless thermostats, the platform empowers end users to automate their heating and cooling systems through easy-to-use web and mobile interfaces, helping them save up to 20 percent on their energy bills while providing 24/7 access via any web or mobile connection.
“There is incredible growth in the market for wireless thermostats,” said Tim Simon, Vice President of Sales at RTCoA. “We selected EnergyHub’s Mercury platform because it is an extremely scalable, powerful, and user-friendly solution—and it is available now. Our customers will love the simple remote access and money-saving features of the new web and mobile applications.”
To date RTCoA has sold nearly a half million wireless thermostats, making it the leader in the industry. Beginning this fall, RTCoA thermostats sold under the Filtrete™ brand by 3M, will migrate over to the Mercury platform. The Mercury platform will be available for every RTCoA wireless thermostat sold thereafter, including those under the Filtrete™ brand.
“All the customer has to do is specify his or her desired comfort settings in the home, and the Mercury software platform does the rest,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, EnergyHub CEO. “By continuously optimizing settings in the home through its constant connection with the cloud, Mercury is truly a ‘set-it-and-forget-it’ system that comes with the added benefit of remote access from wherever you are.”
The average annual energy bill for a U.S. single family home is $2,200, of which 46 percent is spent on heating and cooling, according to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Recent studies show that 90 percent of programmable thermostats are programmed improperly or not at all. By improving the thermostat user experience and adding remote access, RTCoA and EnergyHub are giving people the tools to reverse this trend.
