National Grid, one of the largest investor-owned utilities in the world, announced in spring of 2018 it is using EnergyHub's Mercury DERMS to expand its ConnectedSolutions demand response program to include battery energy storage for residential customers. The utility is using Mercury for end-to-end management of the program, including program eligibility, device monitoring and data management, and demand response dispatch for all connected thermostats and battery energy storage systems enrolled in the program.

EnergyHub President and Co-founder Seth Frader-Thompson and National Grid VP of New Energy Solutions joined Smart Grid Today Publisher Sam Spencer for the Smart Grid Today Podcast to chat about the potential scale of the ConnectedSolutions program, the future of the grid as consumer-owned distributed energy resources (DERs) are installed at a record rate, and the evolution of utilities no longer seeing people as "ratepayers," and now talking about "customers."
