New York, NY – January 11, 2018 – EnergyHub, the leading provider of connected device and distributed energy resource platform services for utilities, and Simple Energy, the leading provider of utility-branded marketplaces and omni-channel instant rebates, announced a partnership today that revolutionizes the enrollment process in Bring Your Own Thermostat® (BYOT) demand response programs.

The EnergyHub-Simple Energy integration enables consumers to purchase a connected thermostat from a utility-branded marketplace and instantly apply both an energy efficiency rebate and a BYOT demand response incentive at the time of purchase. The customer is then automatically enrolled in the demand response program.

EnergyHub and Simple Energy debuted the integrated solution at a major east coast utility during Black Friday 2017. The ability to offer two rebates at once prompted a significant increase in connected thermostat sales on the utility’s marketplace, and 68 percent of customers who bought a thermostat enrolled in the demand response program.

“Our partnership with Simple Energy greatly improves the enrollment experience for consumers in demand response programs,” said Seth Frader-Thompson, President and Co-founder of EnergyHub. “Working together with Simple Energy, we’ve streamlined marketing, purchase, incentive, and enrollment to only a few mouse clicks, and that optimized process is primed to boost program enrollment for our BYOT utility clients.”

This marks the first time a utility has been able to provide customers with a demand response incentive at the time of purchase. Utilities have historically required customers to purchase and connect their devices in order to receive a utility demand response incentive. The customers then had to wait up to 12 weeks to receive the incentive in the mail, a time-consuming process which may have deterred customers from participating.

“There is real power in streamlining the enrollment process for new purchases,” said Yoav Lurie, CEO and co-founder of Simple Energy. “We’ve been doing that for energy efficiency programs for years, and this partnership with EnergyHub unlocks even greater possibilities for utilities looking to quickly and easily enroll customers in demand response programs.”

EnergyHub and Simple Energy are working to bring a streamlined demand response enrollment experience to utilities around the country. Simple Energy reaches 25 million utility customers across North America with its industry-leading Marketplace platform. EnergyHub works with more than 30 utilities around the country to manage demand response, energy efficiency, and distributed energy resource programs.
