The members of EnergyHub’s management team
come from diverse technical and business backgrounds.

Team

Seth Frader-Thompson, CEO

Prior to founding EnergyHub, Seth Frader-Thompson served in several managerial and technical roles at Honeybee Robotics, a New York-based company that builds electromechanical systems for NASA’s Mars missions and the Department of Defense. During his tenure at Honeybee Robotics, he worked on the Mars Science Laboratory mission, the Lunar Precursor and Robotic Program, and payloads and tools for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots. Seth was also the principal investigator for a DARPA research effort to build a miniature laser vision system for search and rescue robots. He has an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, where his research focused on Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) for Ultracold Atom Optics.

Jason Barton, COO

Prior to joining EnergyHub Jason Barton held a number of leadership positions at Segway Inc., most recently as Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. In this role Jason was responsible for sales, marketing, customer service, and government affairs in over 60 global markets focusing on the development of a first-class customer-driven organization to support Segway’s products and solutions. Jason’s career has focused on selling high-tech premium products and solutions to both commercial and consumer markets. He joined Segway from Palm Inc. where he held progressive sales positions, ultimately leading Palm’s U.S. enterprise business as Sales Director for Business, Vertical and Federal markets. Prior to working at Palm, he was responsible for global enterprise sales at MCI/WorldCom. Before moving to the U.S. Jason was located in England and led UK sales and marketing for Precor Inc., a U.S.-based manufacturer of premium sports and fitness equipment. Jason earned a BA Honors Degree from the University of Wales in the UK.

Tom Kennedy, CTO

Tom Kennedy most recently worked for Honeybee Robotics developing control systems and electronics on a wide range of projects. He acted as lead electrical and deputy systems engineer on the Sample Manipulation System (SMS) project for NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, scheduled for launch in 2011. His responsibilities included spaceflight system electronics design, analog and digital circuit design, software development, system integration, reliability engineering, and testing for advanced automated control systems. Tom has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.

David Wechsler, VP Business Development

Before EnergyHub, David Wechsler worked at a management consulting firm helping utilities build, implement, and manage demand-side management and energy efficiency programs. Prior to this, he was president and co-founder of Lanthorn Technologies, which developed software solutions for electric, gas, and water utilities. Prior to founding Lanthorn, David served as a general manager for Razorfish and ran the Interactive Services offering of i-Cube, a back-end solutions provider that was acquired by Razorfish in 1999. In 1994, David founded t3, which provided premium interactive services to clients throughout the United States. David served as president of t3 for five years, eventually selling it to i-Cube. David holds a BA in Policy Studies from Dickinson College and now serves as a trustee of the college.

Stephan von Muehlen, Design Director

Prior to his work as Design Director for EnergyHub, Stephan von Muehlen worked in a variety of roles within the design and engineering industries in New York. He was an Applications Engineer at Honeybee Robotics and a Lead Designer at Parallel Development. He is also a member of O2NYC, an organization of design professionals dedicated to environmentally responsible design, and a certified WVO-diesel conversion mechanic. Stephan has a BA from Columbia University and an MS in Product Design from Stanford University.

Dan Riegel, Software Director

Before joining EnergyHub, Dan Riegel was a software manager and project lead on the Credit Derivatives Trading desk at Bear Stearns. Prior to his work at Bear Stearns, Dan was a founder at MetaCarta, a company providing geographic intelligence solutions. He also developed web software for Kozmo.com, an Internet company that delivered consumer goods to homes in major cities in under an hour. He holds a BS in Physics from Yale University where he developed a particle detector for the STAR experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratories.

Field Pickering, Strategic Development

Based in San Francisco, Field evaluates strategic partnerships and other new business opportunities for EnergyHub. Before his arrival at EnergyHub, Field served as the Managing Director of North American Markets for Cool nrg International Pty Ltd., the Melbourne, Australia-based company, which develops energy efficiency and carbon abatement projects around the world. Prior to entering the clean energy industry, he was a mergers and acquisitions attorney. Field is a graduate of the University of San Francisco’s School of Law and the University of Colorado.

Board of Directors

Dr. Andrew Williamson, Director

Andrew Williamson is a director at Physic Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm investing in consumer-directed health and sustainable living. Among the portfolio investments managed by Physic Ventures, Andrew is a member of the boards of Chromatin, EnergyHub, Halosource, Impinj, and Novomer. Prior to joining Physic Ventures, Andrew spent 10 years leading materials science research and development projects at the Dept. of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He holds a BA and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.

Liam Donohue, Director

Liam Donohue is a co-founder and managing director of .406 Ventures (.406), a $170M early-stage venture capital fund investing in information technology and technology-enabled services. Prior to .406, Liam was a founding Partner of Arcadia Partners, the leading venture fund exclusively focused on early stage education companies. He earned his BS in Chemistry from Georgetown University and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business. In addition to EnergyHub, Liam is a currently a director of American Biomass Corporation (dba Pelletsales.com) and Business Intelligence Advisors. Liam also serves on Dartmouth’s Tuck Private Equity Center Advisory Board and the Union of Concerned Scientists’ National Advisory Board.
